The Creative School at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church was created in 1956 and is an extension of the Church School Program. more on whumc Today approximately 125 children attend the school in newly renovated classrooms with a low student teacher ratio. The Creative School provides opportunities and experiences that will supplement the efforts of home and church school values. Programs are offered for children from 2 years of age through Kindergarten. In addition to developmentally appropriate programs, the school offers music, motor-development, library, art, Spanish, field trips, and a weekly Chapel experience. Each child's emotional skills are developed by a trained staff in a nurturing Christian atmosphere.

The Creative School is one of the few preschools in the area that has an on staff school counselor and play therapy program for young children enrolled in our school. Our counselor, Denette Mann, is a licensed professional counselor, registered play therapist and animal assisted therapist who helps our children work through many normal but trying issues faced by all young children. The presence of an animal, Bailey the poodle, helps facilitate emotional growth. They experience empathy and self-control in a non-threatening way with Bailey.

All Creative School students attend a Creative Movement class 4 days a week. This unique program allows the children to express themselves through song, dance, movement and music. It’s a favorite of our little ones! The older children are taught Spanish once a week and all the children visit the school library once a week for story time and the opportunity to borrow a book.

The Creative School is in session for a nine-month school year beginning at the end of August and ending in mid-May.

Preschool classes meet from 9 am - 12 noon in 2, 3, 4 and 5 day programs 2’s and 3’s may attend a 2 or 3 day program. Four year olds classes are offered a 4 or 5 day program. Kindergarten meets from 9 am - 2 pm. Monday - Friday. Extended Care is offered for preschool children Monday - Friday until 2 pm
